About me…

About me… and not the boring stuff!! I’m here to share all the stuff you REALLY want to know

This is what I’m supposed to do right??? My first blog post; I’m supposed to tell you all about me; give you a feel for what I’m like to talk to; help you know me a bit. That’s the protocol…… right guys???? Guys????

Oh… it’s just me and no guidelines… SUPER comfortable, I won’t have ‘blank page' syndrome at ALL!!!! So as I’m panicking about this; my partner told me to pull up the blog page and just leave it open. He told me I’d write when something struck me. So that’s the game plan. I have it opened; and I have begun typing…. I’m hoping on this journey of blogging maybe I’ll stumble across a nugget or two of wisdom! That would be helpful, no?! Or maybe this will just be an exercise in utilizing a skill I often think is therapeutic, writing, for some people. But either way, or anywhere in between I think I’ll start.

I’ve been contemplating on a quote lately; it’s something like, how you live your days is how you live your life. I don’t know the exact quote or who said it, but that was the sentiment. Recently I’ve felt I understood it more. Both personally and in a professional context as a piece of wisdom that could help others make more meaningful decisions. Maybe! Maybe not! It’s all just experimenting anyway!

But lately; I’ve felt I better understood the quote. I think it’s easy to spend a lot of our lives waiting for the ‘thing’ that’s finally going to make life way better; the job, the house, the relationship, the paycheck? Always waiting on something; it’s never today. So if we’re to live by that quote above; we’d have to stop waiting and make things happen now. Whatever we want our lives to be about, to place importance on, to spend time doing or being with; I think I want to be intentional about making that a daily goal.

The larger goals have seemed less attainable lately; maybe not all, maybe not for everyone. But many people are feeling as though their future’s panned out quite differently than they expected; for better or worse! Probably both. So, this leads me to thoughts of how much more important it is to be intentional about each day; each activity, the people we spend time with. I read an article recently that researched the ‘new mid life crisis’ because millenials cannot afford to have the same one as our parent’s generation; we cannot afford a new Porshe, mistress and cosmetic surgery. I don’t want a mistress anyway; too much work, sheesh! Hehe.

So what does that really look like. Nice quote; but honestly, how to apply it??? Well, I think that will look different for everyone. But I’ll say personally; I want to scale back and spend more time in the places, with the people and doing the things I enjoy. I want to make sure that in each day I’m really checking in with myself; “am I okay?” “Do I need anything?” “Would anything make this day better that isn’t too inconvenient for me?” “Is there any activity I can treat myself to later for getting through this hard thing?”

Now I know some of you are reading that scoffing; “I could never ask myself those things! That’s silly!”, or maybe it feels selfish. From experience, the most selfish thing we can do is NOT take care of ourselves and allow the fallout to affect those we love. When we take good care of ourselves; we have the capacity to care for others. I know; it’s not what we’re taught, but it’s true!! I cannot recommend the book, “Self Compassion” by Kristen Neff enough. (And the workbook companion!).

Big changes usually don’t stick; so maybe it can begin with a small tweak that makes your day just slightly better. You’re going in the right direction. And tomorrow; when it’s time to figure out which direction to go then, that’s for future Ivy to figure out; remember, we’re staying in the present! I trust future Ivy, she’ll figure it out!

It all begins with an idea.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
